On Monday, a 34-year-old man was found and arrested after he faked a hijack in an attempt to obtain some more money in order to be able to continue gambling. He called his wife about the hijack, according to what the North Rand police explained.
A spokesperson for the Police, Captain Jethro Mtshli, has talked to the press about this incident and said that the man called his wife over the phone last Saturday and told her that he had been hijacked and, therefore, he needed R5,000 for its release.
After receiving this call, the wife decided to contact the police and, after that, she called the vehicle tracking company. The woman was told that the Toyota Conquest had been found in the parking lot of the Emperor’s Palace casino, located in Kempton Park, where the husband was also found gambling.
When he was caught, the man admitted that he had faked the hijack because he wanted to get more money to be able to continue gambling. He will now have to show up at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court under the charge of defeating the ends of justice.
