St. Charles Casino sued

Seven regulars of the Ameristar Casino of St. Charles, Mo., are suing and claiming they were deceived out of money and points when the casino changed its video poker rewards program policy.

The lawsuit was filed against the St. Louis area Casino and its parent company, Las Vegas-based Ameristar, and seeks $150M in damages.

First Casino in Manchester

The world's major casino operator, Harrah's Entertainment, is bidding to run England’s first Las Vegas-style casino in Manchester, but is cautious of the "winner's curse", a company source said on Friday.

Last month, Manchester was the winner of a competition to host the “super-casino”, which although small by Las Vegas standards, is likely to be giant, with 5,000 square meters of gaming space, 1,250 slot machines and 2,700 employees.

Australia introduces new gambling laws

Daniel Andrews, the Australian Minister for Gaming, said that new laws to reinforce the integrity, scrutiny and transparency of the review of lotteries and gambling licenses would be introduced into Parliament this week.

Mr. Andrews also explained that the Gambling License Review Panel will be in charge of looking at the processes for reviewing the regulatory structure that will apply after the existing gaming licenses expire, report on the processes for awarding new licenses and present a report that will be available to the general public.

Casino Recruiting

The Meadows Racetrack and Casino has 400 new jobs at his slots parlor and has begun recruiting employees. The new slots parlors will open in May.

The recruiting will start Feb. 26, and appliers can show in person at the employment center located in the Adios Room –next to the racetrack grandstand-.

Meanwhile, the company is receiving applications via Internet for the following positions: cashiers, clerks, security workers, food and beverage staff and other positions.

Woman gives birth in Casino

A woman playing the slots Saturday morning left the Resorts Atlantic City casino with her own little jackpot — a new baby boy.

Eight-months pregnant Nyree Thompson, 32, went into labor on the casino floor about 9:30 a.m.

Thompson said she mistook labor pains for gas at first, but after going to the restroom told a security guard that she might be giving birth.

Harrah’s is considering a takeover

Harrah's Entertainment Inc.’s board -the world's largest gambling company- is going to meet on Wednesday to study buyout offers, and Harrah’s special committee of independent directors has set a deadline on all bills.

Private equity firms Apollo Management and Texas Pacific Group offered an $81-per-share takeover on Oct. 2, but have now raised it to $83.50 per share (totaling $15,5 billion).

South Baton Rouge Riverboat

The Pinnacle Entertainment South Baton Rouge riverboat casino is going to operate inland on a large pond and not directly on the Mississippi River.

Wade Hundley said that it was because of space limitations and the layout of the property. The company wants to place the riverboat in a large artificial pond created between both rivers.

The arrangement will be a significant departure from the way Louisiana casinos are required to operate.

James Bond in Las Vegas

James Bond is back in theaters and this time Daniel Craig takes over the role in Casino Royale. Some fans say he's the best bond since Sean Connery, which was the first and only Bond to take on a mission in Las Vegas.

Fremont Street was one of the locations used in Diamonds Are Forever. There's McCarran Airport, the showroom at the old Dunes Hotel, and Fremont Street long before it had a canopy.

Casino Punishment

A casino had its license suspended after failing to take adequate measures over a problem gambler.

Christine Keenan spent over $6,6M at the casino over 3 years and was jailed for stealing money from her employer to pay her debts and continue gambling. According to the Gambling Act, the casino should offer advice to Keenan, or at least, information about problem gambling.

Mirage on Sale

MGM Mirage Inc. intends to sell its three southern Nevada casinos to Herbst Gaming Inc. for $400 million.

The casinos to be sold are the Whiskey Pete’s, Primm Valley and Buffalo Bill.

The properties total 2,644 guest rooms and 136,000 square feet of casino areas. This sale would be the second in three weeks.
