Interest in the Sahara Casino growing rapidly

The Sahara is the object of attention for casino companies seeking to expand their Las Vegas portfolio or gain a location on the world-famous boulevard.

Gaming and real estate analysts said they think there will be an overabundance of purchase offers for the Sahara, which is operated by the family of late casino pioneer William Bennett.

Gordon Gaming, which manages the Sahara, retained commercial real estate company CB Richard Ellis to sell the 1,720-room hotel-casino.

Harrah’s and Pinnacle to exchange casinos on the Gulf Coast

Pinnacle and Harrah’s Entertainment reached an agreement to exchange hurricane-damaged casinos on the Gulf Coast. Las Vegas- based Harrah’s will take over what is left of Casino Magic Biloxi plus a payment of $25 million.

Pinnacle will receive Harrah’s Lake Charles Casino complex in Louisiana including the 263-room hotel. A spokesperson to Pinnacle informed that the company would use one of Harrah’s riverboat licenses to add a new casino to its gambling resort in Lake Charles.

Biloxi Casino imploded

Despite being a new building, just 12 or 13 years old, the Grand’s Island View Hotel & Casino was recently demolished.

Its architecture and design were nothing special, they represented Biloxi’s casino past, before Katrina destroyed most of the area.

The decision to implode this building was regarded as a step towards the city’s future: Biloxi post-Katrina.

WMS’s incomes grew 3% in 2006

The slot machines developer WMS Industries informed on May 7th that their incomes rose to $110,7 million during the first quarter of the year, which means a company growth of 3% in 2006.

The firm’s shares were 5% lower ($29,36). The net incomes for the first quarter of the year were $9,2 million, compared to the $7,2 million registered in 2005. WMS said that the incomes had grown 3%, reaching $110,7 million and showing an increase of 18% in the average sales price of its new game machines, but added that the number of units sold had decreased to 5,165.

Harrah’s Entertainment is trying to close a deal with Pinnacle for the sale of two riverboat casinos. Last September, Hurricane Rita severely damaged two Lake Charles Riverboat Casinos that belong to Harrah’s and now the company wants to focus on its assets in New Orleans and north Louisiana, according to the president of the Company’s central division.

Casino officials told gambling regulators that it hasn’t been decided yet whether the boats will remain in southwest Louisiana or not.
